As temperatures continue to rise across Pakistan, an environment expert has issued a forecast warning of an impending heatwave in Punjab, with temperatures projected to surpass 40 degrees Celsius starting from May 12.
Dr. Zulfiqar, a renowned environmental expert, highlighted the likelihood of Punjab experiencing a heatwave similar to that currently scorching Sindh. Speaking to Geo News on Thursday, Dr. Zulfiqar advised residents to minimize outdoor activities and stay indoors to avoid heatstroke during the anticipated heatwave.

Additionally, he recommended maintaining indoor humidity by placing water in wide pots, emphasizing the importance of staying cool and hydrated during periods of extreme heat.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) released its monthly outlook for May, forecasting near-normal rainfall in most parts of the country. However, regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Balochistan, northern Punjab, and Azad Kashmir may experience slightly above-normal rainfall.
The PMD also noted that daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal in northern and southern Pakistan, while central regions, including most parts of Punjab and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, may experience normal to slightly below normal maximum temperatures. However, warmer than normal minimum temperatures are anticipated nationwide, with the most significant departure expected over northern KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
Moreover, the PMD highlighted atmospheric conditions conducive to the development of heatwaves, particularly in the plain areas of the southern half of the country. However, above-normal precipitation in May is expected to benefit agriculture, although precautions should be taken to prevent damage to standing wheat crops during harvesting stages.
