Bank Al Habib branch ATM machine in the Saddar area of Karachi shocked a customer when a woman made a transaction and received a fake currency note of Rs 500 from the machine.

Women after the successful transaction and with faith in the correct amount did not count or check the notes and left the ATM cabin. However, upon realizing that the currency note she received from the ATM machine was fake, she came back and immediately contacted Bank Al Habib’s officials available at the branch and shared the details, She also showed the note to the branch manager that had the message, “Bachoon ka khel [Just for children to play]”.

Regardless of all the efforts by the women, the staff at Bank Al Habib Branch not only refused to admit the bank’s fault but also avoided registering her complaint. However, to probe the matter further, the woman has filed her complaint at Banking Mohtasib.

The afflicted woman also made a post on social media to alert people to the proliferation of counterfeit cash in Karachi. A group involved in the distribution of fake notes in bachat bazaars and markets was nabbed by Karachi police a few days ago. Five guys were detained by Khokhropar police station staff on suspicion of distributing fake cash in various Karachi markets.

According to the police, the suspects were part of a gang that distributed bogus currency at markets. Additionally, police found counterfeit notes worth more than Rs118,000.
It is important to highlight that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has taken the greatest steps to identify and combat bogus currency.
