Pakistan’s First-Ever Digital Census Begins Across The Country

The computerised housing and population census will begin today in Pakistan and will last until March 3, According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), citizens will register their family and house details in the digital housing and population census exclusively through registered mobile phones.

For the first time in Pakistan’s history, neither paper or pen will be used in the census; instead, the statistics agency and trained personnel will enter data into tablets. Furthermore, the door-to-door computerised housing and population census will begin on March 1 and run through April 1.

Earlier, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) declared that the seventh digital housing and population census had been postponed for a month due to ‘unavoidable circumstances.

The seventh census field operation was scheduled to take place from February 1 to March 4, 2023, according to a notification released by the Planning Ministry.

“However, due to unforeseen circumstances and in light of ground realities, it was determined in the fifth progress review meeting of the census monitoring committee (CMC) to begin the field operation of the census from 1 March to 1 April, 2023,” the ministry’s notification stated.
