Shuffle Expected in Economic Ministry


As the differences emerged between Secretary Finance and the economic team, the federal government is expected to remove Secretary Finance, Yousaf Khan. Yousaf Khan had replaced Kamran Afzal in the last week of May this year.

Sources from the ministry informed a local media that on the advice of the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, Dr Waqar Masood, he was appointed as Secretary of Finance. Khan had been sidelined in major decision-making by the economic team and now the government wants to replace him, the source added.

Senior administrative officers are lobbying for the post of Secretary Economic Affairs division. The mentioned post had vacated by Noor Ahmad as he was transferred as ED ADB.

The government had withheld the approval of Mohsin Mushtaq Chandna as the Secretary EAD at the eleventh hour. The PM Secretariat had recommended Chandna after interviewing three officers, including the Secretary Power and the former Secretary Petroleum, Asad Ahyaddin.

Sources also said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is facing uncertainty in the form of group. The members and the Chairman do not like to talk to each other, the source added.

Moreover, the Minister for Finance also conducted interviews for the vacant post of the Auditor General of Pakistan on Friday. It is expected that the government might appoint a retired Pakistan Audit and Account officer for the AGP position.
