PIA starts checking coronavirus vaccination certificates

Following the instructions of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has started to check coronavirus vaccination certificates in all flights, it was learnt.

As per the NCOC instruction, it is mandatory for all passengers to have coronavirus vaccination certificates during air travel.

Spokesperson for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Abdullah Hafeez, stated that the authority had been checking vaccination certificates of all the passengers. Yesterday, the authority had stopped eight passengers from boarding flights.

He also stated that PIA was informing all passengers about the standard operating procedures and the NCOC’s guidelines through its call centers.

In this regard, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had issued a notification which said: “No Pakistani passenger of 18 years of age and above will be allowed to undertake domestic air travel within Pakistan without proof of Covid-19 vaccination.”

However, this condition would not apply to international passengers arriving in or departing from Pakistan, and connecting domestic flights of such passengers within 72 hours of arrival in/departure from Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention that those who are partially vaccinated and have proof of vaccination verifiable through SMS from 1166, as well as foreign nationals, will be exempted from this stipulation.
