Arshdeep Singh, a young Indian cricketer, drew more attention than he expected during the Asia Cup 2022 when he dropped that fateful catch during India’s match against Pakistan on Sunday. The match was at its climax when 26 runs were required from the final two overs. In the 19th over, Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali scored 19 runs off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Arshdeep Singh, who had dropped Ali for a duck earlier in the over, reduced the equation to two runs off two balls. With a ball to spare, Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed sealed the victory.

Following Arshdeep’s dropped catch, Indian fans watching the game flooded Twitter with memes, trolling, and abuse directed at the cricketer. Some have even labelled him anti-national. However, many people came out in support of Arshdeep, saying that a mistake should not define a cricketer and urging everyone to look forward to the matches where he will perform well.
Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, also known as Turbunator, was among the first to come to Arshdeep’s aid. “Stop criticising young @arshdeepsinghh.. No one dropped the catch on purpose..we are proud of our boys.. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things about arsh and team on this platform.. Arsh is GOLD,” he tweeted.
It should be noted that the young pacer made life difficult for Pakistani batsmen, conceding only 27 runs in 3.5 overs with an economy of 7.04. In the final over, he also took Asif’s wicket.
Pakistan defeated India by 5 wickets in a last over thriller at Dubai Cricket Stadium on Sunday, completing an equation of 182 runs against Rohit Sharma XI during the Super fours stage in the 8th match of the Asia Cup.
Pakistan’s all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz stole the show for the Men in Green, earning Player of the Match honours with 42 runs, one wicket, and three catches.
