In a significant stride towards fostering education and sustainable development, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has officially inaugurated the King Abdullah Campus of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University (UAJK) in Pakistan.

The distinguished King Abdullah Campus, a testament to the enduring collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, was made possible through a generous grant of $90 million from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, channeled via the SFD. This visionary project sets a new benchmark for educational infrastructure in the region and underscores the commitment of both nations to advancing knowledge and progress.

The ceremonial inauguration was graced by Dr. Saud bin Ayed Al-Shammari, Director General of Asia Operations at SFD, and Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, the President of the State of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The occasion also saw the esteemed presence of Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, alongside other notable officials from both sides.

“The King Abdullah Campus stands as a beacon of modern academia, housing 15 academic departments, administration blocks, accommodation facilities, a library, a mosque, a state-of-the-art auditorium, and essential amenities. This cutting-edge campus is poised to cater to the needs of over 10,000 students, faculty members, and staff, offering a platform for groundbreaking research and educational pursuits. Beyond its academic significance, the new campus aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Sustainable Cities and Local Communities,” highlighted SFD in a press release.

The inauguration of the King Abdullah Campus marks a monumental chapter in the evolution of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, symbolizing the profound friendship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The SFD’s unwavering dedication to supporting development endeavors in Pakistan and across the globe is showcased through this remarkable initiative.
