ECC Approves Draft Policy For Auctioning NGMS Spectrum In AJK For The First Time
Submitted by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the Draft Policy Directives for the Auction of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK).
This is the first time that the NGMS will be auctioned in AJK, and it will improve mobile broadband services in the region. Moreover, the ECC also decided that for the payment of the Auctioned license fee, the method in vogue in the earlier auction processes will be followed.
The Draft Policy Directives was approved in a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Mr. Shaukat Tarin, in which multiple other policies were also approved including the elimination of Documents’ attestation fee for goods imported into Pakistan from Kenya, “Kamyab Pakistan Program,” A flagship program, non-cash settlement for the Power Sector’s re-lent loans and many more.
After a detailed discussion in the 4th meeting of the Advisory Committee meeting which was held on May 25, 2021, Advisory Committee meeting had approved the draft policy directives for the release of the NGMS Spectrum in Pakistan, AJK, and GB, unanimously for improvement of mobile broadband services.
The auction was due in June but the government had postponed the auction of next generation mobile services (NGMS) spectrum in Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) till the next fiscal for the better non-tax revenue in the budget 2021-21.
